Technical assistance is an apparatus, equipment or device to correct a deficiency, an inability to offset or reduce a handicap. Using technology for disability aids can improve their everyday activities. This equipment can help with everyday activities like getting out of bed, move, communicate, dress, prepare meals, and despite the presence of a physical or mental disability. In some cases, technical assistance may take the form of a disposable supply (eg, urinary catheter, incontinence pants). Programs
Various technical assistance programs are in effect and each has specific features. However, despite the differences between these programs, they also have some similarities such as their functioning or obligations of persons receiving technical assistance.
The operation
1. The needs of the person in connection with his disability should be evaluated by a health care professional skill in this field of activity.
2. The health professional will identify technical assistance that will be needed to meet the needs of the individual.
3. The health professional will accompany the person to request technical assistance in the appropriate forum.
4. Once the technical assistance allowed, it is attributed to the person.
5. When the person no longer uses it, help is recovered and repaired or refurbished and given to another person who has the need, with the exception of certain technical aids such as disposable or tailor-made.
Costs
When technical assistance under the program is required for a person, such assistance is:
1. Allocated free of charge, regardless of ability to pay of the person or his family;
2. Repaired and replaced at the expense of the program unless it has been lost, stolen or damaged by careless use or misuse or as a result of a fire or vandalism.
*With the exception of some equipment which the chair cycling and some shoes suitable orthotic for which a minimum contribution is requested. This contribution is expected to compensate for the regular price of a lounge chair, a bicycle or shoes that would otherwise have been purchased by the person if they had not submitted a disability.

Eligible clients
The technical assistance programs are reserved for people with disabilities who need specialized equipment to be independent and safe in daily life. The choice of technical assistance is made by a process described in operation.
A disabled person within the meaning of the Act to secure the rights of persons with disabilities for their academic, professional and social is a person with a deficiency causing a significant disability.
Ineligible clients
The person who has a temporary disability is not eligible.
